2019 was dedicated to checking 5 items off of my bucket list. The beauty that is Antelope Canyons, was one of the them. This beautiful landscape was formed millions of years ago due to flash flooding and erosion of the red-orange Navajo sandstone. This U N R E A L work of art by GOD is a must-see !

Antelope Canyons is located near Page, Arizona, which makes it a great place to visit when in Las Vegas, NV or Phoenix, AZ. I was already in Vegas for work so I took an additional day of PTO to tour the SouthWest. Since I was traveling alone, I toured with a company I found on Viator (link to the tickets are here). The tickets included roundtrip transportation from a variety of different hotels on the strip , a stop at HorseShoe Bend, ticket to enter the lower Antelope Canyons, LUNCH , and bottled water .

Lauren's Tips and Interesting Snips

  1. Antelope Canyons is about a 4.5 hour drive from Las Vegas. Could be a fun road trip with family and friends.

  2. Visit Lower Antelope Canyons ! Antelope Canyons consists of two slot canyons, the Upper and Lower canyons. I recommend you try Lower Antelope Canyons because it is fun and full of action. It requires you to climb up and down a metal stairway and be ready to move through narrow passageways. I thoroughly enjoyed it because I love adventure when I travel ; however, if you would like an " easier " trek, you should look for a tour that includes tickets to Upper Antelope Canyons. There were people on my tour bus that had younger children with them. They chose the Upper Antelope Canyon tour for that reason. If you are touring the lower canyon, bring comfortable shoes and clothes. It can be really hot in the canyon so wear appropriate clothing.

  3. Do NOT bring any valuables with you ! The Navajo tribe ,who owns the land, does not allow you to bring any bags with you at all.The only thing you are allowed to bring is your phone or camera, water, and money(credit card or cash). If you are with a tour company, you will have to leave your purse and any other bags in the bus. If you drive, be prepared to leave your personal items in the car. Keep this in mind.

  4. BRING WATER ! You will get thirsty along the way-- it is a desert ! There is a small souvenir shop on the land that has water , ice cream and snacks but it is pricey. If you have water already, you are allowed to bring your own water.

  5. It is a guided tour . You MUST HAVE A TICKET to tour. If you are not traveling with a tour company where the ticket is INCLUDED, please purchase your ticket beforehand. The guides are all part of the Navajo Nation and have a wealth of knowledge about the canyons and the Navajo culture.

  6. Bring a nice tip for your Antelope Canyons tour . Otherwise, you may feel like the guide is rushing you past some of the great rock formations . In this Instagram-age , we live in, a good picture is everything, so be prepared to pay a bit more for the perfect shot.

  7. You cannot take any VIDEOS. It is a rule . Keep that in mind. Check here for a great FAQ that I also recommend you reference before your trip.

  8. If you go alone, make friends! You need someone to take your picture ;)

Please check out my blog and comment below if you visit the Antelope Canyons! I would love to see your photos and hear about all about your experience !
